Havila Voyages has announced a 90% reduction in emissions for its 12-day Norwegian fjord cruise operations, achieved through a combination of battery-hybrid systems, optimized engines, and advanced hull design. The company emphasizes that this model relies on shore power and LNG refueling stations, which remain scarce in many global cruise hubs.

While the technology demonstrates sustainable shipping potential, retrofitting existing vessels is costly, and new-build ships integrating this technology come at a premium. The lack of standardized green maritime infrastructure in regions like the Mediterranean and Caribbean limits broader adoption, making Norway a unique case rather than a replicable model.
