Haydale Begins Graphene Research for Aircraft Lightning Protection
Haydale is launching an 18-month research project to explore graphene's use in carbon fiber for lightning protection in aircraft. The initiative aims to develop a more efficient, cost-effective solution compared to traditional methods involving metal meshes.

Haydale has secured funding of at least £100,000 from the National Technology Exploration Programme (NATEP) for an 18-month research initiative. This project will focus on integrating graphene's conductive properties into aircraft structures, aiming for improved lightning protection.
Current solutions involving copper or aluminum meshes are heavier and more expensive. Partners BAE Systems and Airbus are expected to leverage the research outcomes, marking a notable advancement in enhancing airliner safety. The successful implementation of this technology may lead to reduced production costs and improved aircraft performance.
