HCM City Proposes Solutions for Methane Reduction through 2030 to Ministry of Agriculture and Environment
HCM City has proposed technical and policy solutions to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to enhance the implementation of Vietnam's methane-reduction action plan through 2030. This was detailed in Report No. 286/BC-UBND, outlining the city's actions in crop cultivation, livestock farming, solid-waste management, and wastewater treatment.
The city has initiated communication programs to raise awareness about methane reduction and responsible waste management. Key initiatives include the operation of three new transfer stations, acceleration of technology upgrades at waste treatment plants, and support for five waste-to-energy projects with a combined capacity of 8,500 tonnes per day.
A pre-feasibility study for a 2,000-tonne-per-day waste-to-energy plant is also underway, with operations expected by 2028. The city aims to update its methane-reduction plan by 2026, addressing issues such as administrative restructuring and the need for consolidated technical guidelines.
