HDF Energy to Develop Hydrogen Power Plants in the Philippines
HDF Energy Philippines will construct hydrogen-integrated power plants to stabilize renewable energy supply. The initiative aligns with the Philippine government's low-carbon fuel policies and aims to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.
HDF Energy Philippines plans to build commercial-scale hydrogen-integrated power plants, combining solar energy, lithium-ion batteries, and hydrogen storage, to provide stable baseload power. The Department of Energy (DOE) emphasized this initiative's significance in enhancing energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supported by a national hydrogen policy established in 2024.
Projects will benefit from incentives under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008 and the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act. Additionally, the DOE mandates energy storage for renewable projects exceeding 10 MW, requiring at least 20% storage capacity. This policy shift impacts financial structures for renewable energy development, influencing market dynamics and investment strategies among companies like Fluence and ACEN.
