Heavy Rare Earths Project at Subron Identified as Source for AUKUS Submarines
The Subron rare earths project in Western Australia has identified high-grade heavy rare earth oxides (HREO) with potential for the AUKUS submarine program. A strategic review revealed significant mineralization, with drill results showing intersections averaging 1344ppm HREO and a 42% HREO ratio, indicating a valuable resource for defense applications.

Heavy Rare Earths (ASX:HRE) has reported high-grade mineralization at the Subron project in Western Australia, showing promise as a resource for the AUKUS submarine initiative. The project has identified ~12.9km of high-grade HREO strike and 10 domains, with a JORC resource of 159Mt at 870ppm TREO.
Significant drill results include an intercept of 8m at 3057ppm TREO and 1344ppm HREO, with ongoing assessments expected to further define resources. The strategic location, 350km from a rare earth processing facility and 110km from Esperance, enhances logistical advantages. This development could bolster the supply chain for critical minerals in defense applications, highlighting strategic importance amid global demand for rare earth elements.
