Hesai Technology Faces National Security Scrutiny Amid Nvidia Partnership
Hesai Technology, holding a 37% global lidar market share, has been designated a Chinese military company by the Pentagon. Despite legal challenges, the firm secured a partnership with Nvidia for its autonomous driving platform in January 2026.

Hesai Technology was added to the U.S. Department of Defense's Section 1260H list of Chinese military companies on January 31, 2024, with a federal court upholding this designation in July 2025. Despite this, Nvidia selected Hesai as a lidar supplier for its DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 platform in January 2026.
Hesai claims a production capacity goal of over 4 million units in 2026. Concurrently, Chinese authorities are considering restrictions on overseas access to advanced AI models, reflecting heightened competition in AI technology. These regulations may affect global AI market dynamics and could increase costs for foreign companies reliant on Chinese models.
