Hidroelectrica's Electricity Output Drops 15% in 2025, Plans New Storage Projects
Hidroelectrica's net electricity production decreased by 15% to 11,847 GWh in 2025, alongside a 15% drop in hydro output and a 9% decline in wind energy. To counter reduced internal production, electricity purchases surged by 175% to 2,209 GWh. Total energy sold fell by 4% to 14,056 GWh, even as supply sales to customers rose by 30%. The company is developing a 300 MW pumped storage plant with Hidro Blue Energy SRL and has partnered with EDF Power Solutions for the Tarniţa-Lăpuşteşti project.

In 2025, Hidroelectrica's net electricity production fell by 15% to 11,847 GWh, with hydro output also down 15% to 11,585 GWh and wind energy production declining by 9% to 262 GWh. Electricity purchases increased by 175% to 2,209 GWh to compensate for the drop in internal output.
Total energy sold decreased by 4% to 14,056 GWh, while supply sales to customers increased by 30% to 7,244 GWh. Hidroelectrica is advancing its development of power storage capacities, including a 300 MW pumped storage project with Hidro Blue Energy SRL and the Tarniţa-Lăpuşteşti project in collaboration with EDF Power Solutions.
