The High Committee for Private Electricity Generation in Tunisia approved a 77.25 MW wind power project in Zaghouan, which is part of a tender for wind energy projects targeting 600 MW total capacity. This project will generate approximately 290 GWh annually, representing 1.3% of national electricity output, and save about 60,000 toe of natural gas, valued at USD 30 million.

Additionally, two solar photovoltaic projects, each with 100 MW capacity, were approved for Tataouine and Gabes, expected to generate 550 GWh/year and save 110,000 toe of natural gas worth USD 55 million. The Committee plans further tenders for wind and solar projects, aiming for 35% renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2030. Tunisia's first 100 MW solar PV plant in Metbasta commenced commercial operation on December 16, 2025.
