HiQuTe Diamond to Industrialize Ultra-Pure Diamonds for Quantum and Power Electronics
HiQuTe Diamond, a startup established in late 2022 at the CNRS's LSPM laboratory in Sorbonne Paris Nord, is set to industrialize ultra-pure synthetic diamonds for electronics. The company raised €7.5 million in July to transition from laboratory production to its first factory in Île-de-France, expected to open by summer 2026.
HiQuTe uses chemical vapor deposition (CVD) to create diamonds, producing chemically identical yet purer diamonds with controlled growth. Their products include blue diamonds for power electronics, white diamonds for insulation and qubit support, and red diamonds for quantum sensing, capitalizing on nitrogen-vacancy centers for sensitive electromagnetic field detection.
Applications range from cancer cell analysis to GPS-free navigation and defense. However, challenges remain in meeting industry standards for larger diamond wafers, currently producing 4x4 mm plates. The company aims to create an ecosystem for these diamonds to be effectively utilized.
