Ho Nieh Appointed 20th Chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission
President Donald Trump appointed Ho Nieh as the 20th Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), succeeding David Wright and solidifying a Republican majority on the commission. Nieh, who joined the NRC as a commissioner in December, aims to streamline the approval process for advanced nuclear technologies while addressing significant staff turnover within the agency. New guidance has also been issued to enhance collaboration between the NRC and vendors using Department of Energy or Department of Defense authorizations for reactor designs.

President Donald Trump appointed Ho Nieh as the 20th Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), replacing David Wright. Nieh joined the NRC as a commissioner in December, giving Republicans a 3-2 majority.
He previously worked at the Nuclear Energy Agency and holds degrees in engineering and business. The NRC aims to streamline the approval process for advanced nuclear technologies, responding to Executive Order 14300.
The agency has seen over 260 employees leave amid leadership changes. New guidance was issued to improve collaboration between NRC and vendors utilizing Department of Energy or Department of Defense authorizations for reactor designs.
