Holtec Plans Nuclear Equipment Plant in Gujarat for 300 MWe SMRs Manufacturing
Holtec plans to build a manufacturing plant in Gujarat for its 300 MWe small modular reactors (SMRs) and will soon discuss design approval with the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). The facility will produce equipment for both nuclear and commercial power plants.
This will be Holtec's second manufacturing unit in India, complementing an existing condenser unit in Dahej. The company has received US Department of Energy authorization to collaborate with Tata Consulting Engineers, L&T, and Holtec Asia on its SMR-300 program.
Holtec aims to adapt the SMR design for local manufacturing to enhance affordability. The company also seeks to develop nuclear engineering talent in India and address challenges like land acquisition and earthquake risks associated with nuclear power.
