House Committee Reviews 40MW Dadinkowa Hydropower Plant's Performance
The Dadinkowa Hydropower Plant has generated over 700 million kWh since 2021, bolstering energy stability in North East Nigeria. The House Committee on Power Sector Reforms emphasizes the need to address regulatory loopholes to enhance indigenous partnerships in energy infrastructure.

The Dadinkowa Hydropower Plant commenced commercial operations in 2021 and has produced over 700 million kilowatt-hours of energy. During a recent oversight visit, House Committee Chairman Rep. Ibrahim Aliyu highlighted the plant's role in ensuring voltage stability in North East Nigeria and noted the importance of addressing regulatory loopholes in the concession agreement.
The plant operates at less than half its 40MW capacity due to fluctuating water levels, which poses a challenge for long-term viability. Stakeholders are encouraged to replicate this successful private financing model across other stranded power assets in Nigeria. The government must strengthen evacuation infrastructure to fully utilize the plant's output when water levels rise.
