Hughes Precision's Gunpowder Storage Proposal Faces Regulatory Delays Amid Safety Concerns
Hughes Precision Manufacturing's request to store gunpowder in Naqueri is pending due to delayed safety reports. The Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board must decide by May 31, raising concerns about regulatory oversight.

Hughes Precision Manufacturing is awaiting formal approval from the Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (Goa-IPB) to establish a gunpowder storage facility at Naqueri, contingent on safety reports that are still pending. A joint inspection of the proposed site occurred on April 12, but reports from various government departments remain unsubmitted nearly 43 days later.
Local opposition is mounting from Quepem MLA Alton D'Costa and the Betul village Panchayat, who have pledged to contest the project. Compounding the issue, the Indian Army has requested support for Hughes Precision, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted ammunition supply amidst current geopolitical tensions. The outcome may influence regulatory processes and local governance.
