Hughes Wins STAR-FISH Contract for Advanced Space Data Networking with AFRL
Hughes Network Systems has been awarded the STAR-FISH contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory to enhance space data networks. The project focuses on developing hybrid satellite networks to improve network resilience and connectivity, addressing challenges in future space data communication. The initiative will integrate AI and 5G technologies to create an interoperable information enterprise for the Department of Defense.

Hughes Network Systems received the STAR-FISH award from the Air Force Research Laboratory under the RAPID program to enhance space data networks. The contract mandates Hughes to develop hybrid, layered satellite networks to improve communication reliability by efficiently routing data across space and terrestrial infrastructures.
The project aims to address challenges in future space data networks and will leverage AI, 5G, and zero-trust security measures. Hughes will utilize software-defined network orchestration tools to optimize data routing and bandwidth allocation for Department of Defense users.
