Hundreds of Lawyers Protest in Morocco Against Draft Law Threatening Independence
Hundreds of lawyers protested in Rabat against draft law n°66.23, which they claim threatens the independence of the legal profession. Organized by the Association of Bar Associations of Morocco, the sit-in reflects ongoing tensions with the Ministry of Justice. Lawyers demand either the withdrawal or significant revision of the law, which they argue undermines the rule of law by imposing administrative control over the profession. Despite the protests, Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi remains firm on advancing the bill through Parliament.

In Rabat, hundreds of lawyers mobilized against draft law n°66.23, asserting it jeopardizes their independence and the rule of law. The protest, led by the Association of Bar Associations of Morocco, aims to push for the withdrawal or significant revision of the bill, which they believe introduces administrative oversight and compromises the defense's role.
Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi, however, insists on proceeding with the legislative process and has rejected calls for dialogue outside of Parliament. He maintains that any necessary changes must occur within the parliamentary framework, despite ongoing tensions.
