Hungary's Energy Ministry Announces Tender for Seven Hydrocarbon Extraction Sites
The Ministry of Energy in Hungary has launched a tender for seven hydrocarbon extraction sites to promote natural gas and crude oil production. The concessions will allow exploration and production rights for 20 years, extendable by five years. The move aims to reduce reliance on imports and boost domestic output, following the ministry's previous concessions in 2024. The new tenders are expected to stimulate investment and enhance self-sufficiency, with recent production figures indicating significant gains in crude oil and natural gas.

Hungary's Ministry of Energy has launched a tender for hydrocarbon extraction at seven sites: Baracska, Bácsalmás, Békéscsaba, Kisköre, Nagylengyel-nyugat, Tiszacsege, and Tiszalök. Concessions will grant exploration and production rights for 20 years, extendable by five years.
The initiative seeks to enhance domestic mineral resource exploitation, reducing import dependence. The ministry previously announced mining concessions in 2024 and cited successful contracts for six sites last year. The new tender is expected to boost investment and increase domestic output, with crude oil production reaching 1.17 million tons in 2025 and natural gas nearing 2 billion cubic meters in 2024.
