Huntsville Center Completes $1.5 Million Pipeline Repair at NSF Diego Garcia Ahead of Schedule
The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, repaired a $1.5 million Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants Pier Pipeline at U.S. Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, completing the project 17 days ahead of schedule.
The repair was essential for maintaining uninterrupted operations in the Indo-Pacific region. An inspection in May revealed deterioration in a 6-inch gasoline pipeline critical for base operations. An Emergency Service Order was issued for its replacement, and logistics planning enabled swift transport of materials and personnel via military aircraft.
Custom access systems were engineered for installation, and welding inspectors verified the integrity of the new carbon steel piping. The project was completed in November, allowing for system testing before a planned fuel delivery, demonstrating the Huntsville Center's rapid response capability in remote locations.
