Hydrogen Adige Valley Project Launches in Bolzano with 2 MW Electrolyser
The Hydrogen Adige Valley has commenced operations in Bolzano, featuring a 2 MW electrolyser to support SASA's hydrogen bus fleet. With a total investment of approximately €35 million, the project aims to produce 130,000 kg of green hydrogen annually, enhancing public transport sustainability.

The Hydrogen Adige Valley project in Bolzano integrates renewable energy generation with hydrogen production and refuelling infrastructure. Developed in collaboration with SASA, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, and Alperia, it features a 2 MW electrolyser that will generate around 360 kg of hydrogen daily, totaling 130,000 kg annually.
A dedicated 1.5 MW photovoltaic system will provide about 1.89 GWh of renewable electricity to support this process. SASA plans to expand its fleet from 50 to over 120 zero-emission buses by 2030, relying on this local hydrogen supply. The project represents a significant investment in sustainable public transport infrastructure in the region, with potential implications for energy independence and emissions reduction.
