Hydropower Development in South Kashmir: Status Update
Only one mini hydropower project, operated by JKSPDC, is currently active in south Kashmir, with multiple others under development. The region's hydropower initiatives face delays primarily due to financial closure and clearance issues, impacting energy generation potential.

In south Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) operates one mini hydropower project in Pahalgam with a capacity of 4.5 MW, commissioned in 2013. Currently, this facility generates about 1 MW due to low water discharge.
Other projects include the 5 MW Ichoo-Kokernag and Mavar-Wayil projects, both commissioned in 2020 and 2023, respectively. Two projects are under construction, including the 1.65 MW Dadibal Kapran and 3 MW Daksum.
New projects like the 2 MW Sheshnag and Sedaw have received necessary clearances. Multiple projects remain in early stages, and overall delays are linked to financial and regulatory challenges.
