Hyundai E&C and Hyundai Motor Group Develop V2G System for Distributed Energy Projects
Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Motor Group are collaborating on distributed energy projects, focusing on vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology to utilize electric vehicles as mobile batteries. A 15-member consortium, including Kia and Korea Electric Power Corp., is working on this initiative, with demonstrations planned through 2028. Additionally, Hyundai E&C targets over 12 trillion won in offshore wind orders by 2030 and is exploring hydrogen production methods. They have signed a power purchase agreement with Hyundai Mobis and are coordinating with regulatory bodies.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Motor Group are advancing distributed energy projects by developing a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) system that aggregates surplus electricity from electric vehicles and sells it into the power market. A 15-member consortium, including Kia and Korea Electric Power Corp., is involved, with demonstration work scheduled through 2028.
Hyundai E&C aims for over 12 trillion won ($8.32 billion) in offshore wind orders by 2030 and is also exploring large-scale hydrogen production methods. A virtual power purchase agreement with Hyundai Mobis covers 150 gigawatt-hours through 2048, alongside a solar power agreement linked to Hyundai Motor's Ulsan plant. Regulatory coordination is ongoing.
