Hyundai Steel's $5.8 billion facility in Donaldsonville is set to break ground on September 4, 2025. The project will create approximately 1,300 permanent jobs and support local economic growth.

Construction of Hyundai Steel's $5.8 billion ultra-low-carbon electric arc furnace facility will commence with a groundbreaking ceremony on September 4, 2025. Located on about 1,700 acres in RiverPlex MegaPark, the plant aims to begin operations in 2029 and will primarily supply steel for Hyundai Motor Group's U.S. automotive plants.
The project is projected to generate 1,300 permanent jobs, 4,800 peak construction jobs, and 4,100 indirect jobs. Additionally, the local economy in Donaldsonville is already benefiting, with recent investments in historic buildings by various investors. Following the groundbreaking, a community day is scheduled for September 6, 2025, to celebrate the initiative.
