IAF Establishes Indigenous Kamikaze Drone Ecosystem at Sulur
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is launching a project to develop a self-sustaining ecosystem for kamikaze drones at Air Force Station Sulur, Tamil Nadu. This initiative aims to enhance domestic capabilities in advanced unmanned systems and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is initiating a project to create an indigenous ecosystem for kamikaze drones at Air Force Station Sulur, Tamil Nadu. The program will develop capabilities for design, manufacturing, and sustainment of one-way attack drones, focusing on long-term self-reliance in military technology.
An Indian partner will be selected to assist in these efforts, which include developing two operational prototypes and critical infrastructure for future projects. The proposed drones will carry at least a 30-kg payload for terminal strike missions against high-value military targets.
The facility will streamline all stages of development, from airframe manufacturing to certification, aiming to reduce external dependencies. This pilot project could establish a larger ecosystem for military drone innovation, enhancing India's strategic capabilities.
