IATA Urges Focus on Aviation Development in Africa; Nigerian Air Force Enhances Aircraft Safety Measures
IATA emphasizes the need for African governments to prioritize aviation as vital for economic growth and development. The Nigerian Air Force is enhancing aircraft safety and operational readiness through a dedicated seminar.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has called for African governments to treat aviation as a key economic driver, highlighting its role in facilitating trade, tourism, and job creation. Despite improvements in aviation safety, with accident rates declining from 12.13 per million sectors in 2024 to 7.86 in 2025, it remains above the global average of 1.32.
The association also noted that aviation costs in Africa are approximately 15% higher than the global average, with significant issues related to blocked airline revenues totaling USD 774 million. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force is committed to improving aircraft safety and operational excellence, recently hosting a seminar focused on enhancing airworthiness and maintenance practices, critical for national security. This seminar aims to align with the Air Force's strategy of operational readiness and combat effectiveness, reinforcing the importance of rigorous safety protocols.
