IBM and U.S. Government Launch First Dedicated Quantum Chip Foundry in the Americas
IBM and the U.S. Department of Commerce announced a Letter of Intent to establish a quantum chip foundry named Anderon, supported by $2 billion in investments. This initiative aims to position the U.S. as a leading manufacturer of quantum wafers, enhancing national security and economic growth.

IBM and the U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC) have signed a Letter of Intent to establish Anderon, a dedicated quantum chip foundry in Albany, New York. This project will be supported by $1 billion from the CHIPS Act and an additional $1 billion investment from IBM, aimed at bolstering the U.S. quantum technology landscape.
Anderon will utilize 300-millimeter technology to fabricate quantum wafers for various vendors, enhancing U.S. capabilities in the quantum sector, projected to generate up to $850 billion in economic value by 2040. The establishment of this foundry signals a strategic move to consolidate U.S. leadership in quantum computing and strengthen its supply chain. This initiative could create thousands of high-paying jobs and advance quantum applications across multiple industries, including defense and healthcare.
