Iceland Leads Global Rankings in Clean Electricity Generation
Iceland has the lowest carbon intensity for electricity globally at 28 gCO₂/kWh, significantly lower than other nations. The study by Energy World Mag ranked 76 countries on energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of their power grids.

Iceland's electrical grid has the lowest carbon intensity globally at 28 gCO₂/kWh, primarily due to its reliance on renewable sources, which account for 82.4% of its energy. Norway ranks second, with 50.6% of its electricity from alternative and nuclear energy, and 89.1% generated from hydroelectric sources.
Switzerland, with an energy efficiency of 0.51 kWh per $1 GDP, has a diverse energy portfolio, including 55.9% from hydroelectric dams. Sweden and France also show low carbon emissions, with Sweden at 34.8 gCO₂/kWh and France generating 46.7% of its electricity from alternative sources. The study underscores the challenges of replicating Iceland and Norway's models due to their unique natural resources.
