Iceland's Environmental and Energy Agency Advances Solar Solutions in HYBES Project
Iceland's Environmental and Energy Agency has advanced solar energy solutions through the HYBES project, which included a multi-stakeholder meeting and the creation of an instruction manual for small systems in 2024. A targeted grant for remote households led to one-third of the funded solar installations becoming operational by September 2025, enhancing community attitudes towards solar energy. Following a market shift in autumn 2025, plans for an updated manual and another stakeholder meeting were initiated.

Iceland's Environmental and Energy Agency led Pilot 3.3 of the HYBES project on geothermal solutions and developed solar energy pilots. In 2024, it held a multi-stakeholder meeting on solar installation and created an instruction manual for systems under 100 kW.
A targeted solar installation grant was launched for remote households reliant on fossil fuels. By September 2025, one-third of funded systems were operational, exceeding production expectations. The project improved community attitudes towards solar energy. In autumn 2025, a shift in the electricity market allowed home-to-grid production, prompting plans for an updated instruction manual and a new stakeholder meeting.
