ICMS Develops Hybrid Device Harnessing Solar and Rain Energy for Portable Power

SOLAR ENERGY

Researchers at the Institute of Materials Science of Seville (ICMS) have developed a hybrid device that generates energy from both sunlight and rain. This device features a thin film that protects perovskite solar cells and allows nanogenerators to produce over 110 volts from a single raindrop.

The technology combines photovoltaic and triboelectric systems, enabling power generation even in adverse weather. It aims to enhance energy autonomy for portable devices and has applications in smart cities and IoT. The project was supported by the European Research Council and Next Generation funds.
