Idaho Enhances Government Efficiency with AI and IT Consolidation Initiatives

DEFENSE

In 2025, Idaho officials advanced the use of AI to improve government efficiency, supported by CIO Alberto Gonzalez's leadership since 2022 in a multiyear IT consolidation process. The Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) developed a framework for safe AI implementation, resulting in several use cases that enhance productivity.

For example, a language model reduced case review time in child welfare from hours to under a minute. The Idaho Transportation Department is automating data entry processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

AI literacy initiatives, such as an AI Lunch and Learn series, are being introduced for employee training. Privacy and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are also priorities, with a focus on integrating these areas with AI.

Additionally, cybersecurity efforts, including Operation Cyber Idaho, are aimed at enhancing the state's defenses and providing job opportunities in rural areas. The IT consolidation project is set to conclude by June with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare's integration.
