IDF Bans Chinese Vehicles on Military Bases Amid Espionage Concerns; India Faces Similar Risks with EVs

DEFENSE

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has banned Chinese-manufactured vehicles from military bases due to espionage fears, effective early 2026. The ban affects around 700 vehicles, including the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.

Israeli security agencies warn that these vehicles' systems may transmit sensitive data to China. The IDF's restrictions extend to aerospace and defence sectors. In India, brands like MG Motor and BYD Auto have significant market shares in the electric vehicle segment, raising similar security concerns.

While there is no confirmed ban on Chinese vehicles at Indian military sites, the Ministry of Defence is auditing to eliminate Chinese components from military equipment. The Indian Army has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for Chinese parts in drones following incidents of data breaches. The delivery of Bharat Electronics' GBVU Communication Jammer to the Indian Air Force further underscores India's focus on enhancing electronic warfare capabilities.
