IFFCO's Paradip Unit Faces Ammonia Shortage Threatening Fertilizer Production
Ammonia shortages, exacerbated by the West Asia conflict, may lead IFFCO's Paradip facility to cease DAP and urea production within 30 days. The disruption in supply chains is critical for sectors reliant on these fertilizers, impacting agricultural output.
IFFCO's Paradip plant may halt production of diammonium phosphate (DAP) and urea due to an ammonia shortage caused by the West Asia conflict. The facility has enough stock to operate for only 30 days, as disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz have affected ammonia shipments.
Efforts are underway to find alternative sources for raw materials, including liquefied natural gas (LNG). DAP is significant for crop yield, while urea is essential for nitrogen enrichment. Industry stakeholders are concerned about increased shipping costs and fertilizer dependency. There are calls to promote organic fertilizers to alleviate reliance on chemicals.
