In FY 2025-26, IIT Madras successfully incubated 112 startups, surpassing the previous year's total of 103 and pushing its cumulative portfolio to 567 startups, with a combined valuation exceeding USD 8 billion. The institute filed 431 patents during the same period, emphasizing its commitment to transforming academic research into commercial outcomes.
Over 60% of the startups were founded by external entrepreneurs, indicating a broadening national footprint. The incubated startups encompass sectors such as AI, robotics, and climate technologies. Notable companies from this ecosystem include Ather Energy, which recently went public, and others like Uniphore and MediBuddy. This growth illustrates a thriving culture of innovation and the effectiveness of IIT Madras's intellectual property framework.
