IIT Roorkee Inaugurates Phase I of Piped Natural Gas Facility
IIT Roorkee inaugurated its Piped Natural Gas facility on March 25, 2026, marking a step toward sustainable energy. The project, executed by HNGPL, a joint venture of Bharat Petroleum and GAIL Gas, includes a De-Compression Unit and extends PNG connections to 14 hostel messes and 1500 residences. The initiative aims to support India's transition to cleaner energy and enhance convenience for the campus community.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee inaugurated its Piped Natural Gas (PNG) facility on March 25, 2026. The project is executed by HNGPL, a joint venture of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and GAIL Gas Limited.
Phase I includes a De-Compression Unit and has laid over 15,000 meters of MDPE pipeline. The facility will extend PNG connections to 14 hostel messes and around 1500 residences on campus. This initiative aligns with the Government of India's vision to promote PNG as a cleaner energy source and aims to enhance convenience while reducing carbon emissions.
