IIT Ropar and Indian Army Launch M.Tech in Defence Technology for Armoured Corps Officers
IIT Ropar has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Indian Army to establish an M.Tech programme in Defence Technology for officers of the Armoured Corps Centre & School (ACC&S). This collaboration represents the first comprehensive defence technology partnership between an IIT and the armed forces in India.
The programme emphasizes applied learning and innovation-driven problem-solving, preparing officers for technology leadership roles. Upon completion, participants will receive an M.Tech degree from IIT Ropar, enabling them to lead technological modernization and indigenisation efforts in defence manufacturing.
The MoA also outlines a framework for joint research initiatives in areas such as next-generation armoured fighting vehicle technologies and advanced armament solutions. The signing was attended by leaders from both institutions, including Maj Gen Vikram Varma and Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar.
