Ikorodu North LCDA and WaterAid Launch Solar-Powered Water and Sanitation Facilities
The Ikorodu North LCDA and WaterAid inaugurated solar-powered water and sanitation facilities, benefiting over 54,000 residents. Supported by Microsoft, WaterAid has already improved access to clean water for over 35,000 people. The initiative focuses on a sustainable model with female Local Area Mechanics (LAM) tasked with maintaining solar panels and pumping systems, promoting social equity and long-term community health.

The inauguration of solar-powered water and sanitation facilities in Ikorodu North aims to benefit over 54,000 residents. This initiative, a collaboration between the local council, state government, and WaterAid Nigeria, addresses long-standing water scarcity using solar energy, ensuring consistent access to clean water.
A key aspect is the employment of female Local Area Mechanics (LAM) for maintenance, promoting gender inclusivity. The project also aims to establish a maintenance culture to prevent infrastructure abandonment. Following the launch, LAM will conduct regular inspections, and there are plans to replicate inclusive sanitation models across public schools in the state.
