I&M to Construct 1,520 MW Gas Facility in Rockport, Indiana

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) has applied for a certificate from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) to build a 1,520 MW natural gas combined cycle facility at Rockport, expected to enhance generation capacity and meet increasing energy demands. The facility will generate approximately 1,200 construction jobs and 30 to 40 operational roles.

I&M's plans include transitioning from coal to natural gas by 2030, with construction set for 2027 and operational status anticipated by summer 2030. This initiative is part of I&M's Future Ready plan, aimed at providing stable energy resources while maintaining a disciplined cost approach for customers. The project is crucial as energy demand in the area is forecasted to double by the early 2030s, positioning Rockport as a key site for future energy generation.
