India Approves 23 Quantum Teaching Labs Under National Quantum Mission
India's National Quantum Mission has approved 23 academic institutions to establish quantum teaching laboratories, following a meeting in New Delhi on 16 March 2026. The NQM has a budget of ₹6,003.65 crore for 2023-2031 and aims to develop quantum technologies, including computers with 50 to 1,000 qubits. Meanwhile, US defense official Elbridge Colby will visit India to strengthen defense ties amid ongoing regional tensions.

The mission, funded with ₹6,003.65 crore for 2023-2031, aims to develop quantum computers, satellite-based secure communication systems, and high-precision sensors.
A PSLV mission is planned for later this year, alongside a navigation satellite for the Navy. In defense relations, US official Elbridge Colby will visit India to enhance ties, following trade disputes and regional tensions.
A 10-year defense framework was signed in October 2025, and recent US approvals for arms sales to India include anti-tank missiles and precision-guided munitions. The visit seeks to address challenges and unlock stalled defense collaborations.
