India Approves ₹40,000 Crore for Two Major Hydro Projects in Arunachal Pradesh
The Government of India has approved over ₹40,000 crore for two hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh, aimed at enhancing the region's energy capacity and infrastructure. The investments are crucial for India's energy transition strategy and grid stability.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has authorized ₹40,000 crore for the 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project and the 1,200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The Kamala project, with a budget of ₹26,069.50 crore, will span 96 months and is expected to generate approximately 6,870 million units (MU) annually, while the Kalai-II project, costing ₹14,105.83 crore, will be completed in 78 months with an expected output of 4,852.95 MU.
Both projects aim to enhance regional power supply, support peak demand management, and contribute to national grid stability, along with facilitating significant infrastructure improvements, including roads and social amenities. These developments underline the strategic push to position Arunachal Pradesh as a hydropower hub, leveraging local resources for energy security.
