India Commissioned Pneumatic RAM Test Facility for Submarine Maintenance in Karwar
India has inaugurated a Pneumatic RAM Test Facility at its Karwar workshop, enhancing submarine maintenance for the Indian Navy. Opened on 13 March 2026, the facility supports the Kalvari-class submarines, improving logistical efficiency and operational readiness. This development positions India alongside France and Brazil as one of the few nations with such capabilities, contributing to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and reducing reliance on foreign support for critical submarine systems.

India commissioned a Pneumatic RAM Test Facility at the Naval Group India Technical Workshop in Karwar on 13 March 2026. This facility is designed for the maintenance and testing of critical components in the Pneumatic Mast Raising System for Kalvari-class submarines.
It aims to support maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations, enhancing submarine availability and operational readiness. India now joins France and Brazil in possessing such facilities, which are vital for the effective functioning of submarine systems.
The initiative aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat program, promoting self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The facility also has implications for strategic maritime operations in the Indian Ocean Region.
