India Energy Stack to Transform Distributed Renewable Energy Initiatives
The India Energy Stack (IES) aims to enhance distributed renewable energy (DRE) in India, particularly through programs like PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM. Joint Secretary JVN Subramanyam highlighted a significant increase in DRE capacity, with 18 GW added in the last 15 months, supported by $9 billion for rooftop solarization and $4 billion for agricultural solar pumps. The IES, integrating AI, is expected to improve energy governance and efficiency, assisting prosumers in monitoring their energy generation and optimizing distribution systems.

The India Energy Stack (IES) is set to advance distributed renewable energy (DRE) in India, focusing on initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM. Joint Secretary JVN Subramanyam reported that India has added approximately 18 GW of DRE capacity in the past 15 months, significantly higher than in the previous decade.
India currently has 140 GW of solar power capacity, with 35 GW from DRE. The government is investing about $9 billion in rooftop solar and $4 billion in agricultural solarization. The IES will leverage AI to enhance energy management and assist prosumers in optimizing energy generation and distribution.
