India Invites French Firms for Nuclear Sector Collaboration Under SHANTI Act
India's SHANTI Act enables French companies to engage in its nuclear sector, fostering foreign investment and innovation. This collaboration is pivotal as India enhances its nuclear technology landscape, focusing on small and advanced modular reactors.

India's SHANTI Act allows French nuclear companies to directly engage in the nuclear sector, promoting both foreign direct investment and private participation. During discussions on June 14 between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, significant focus was given to collaboration on small and advanced modular reactors, facilitated by the strategic task force established between the nations.
The SHANTI Act, enacted in 2025, replaces previous legislation, indicating a shift in India's nuclear industry landscape. Current dialogues involve Electricite de France and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, addressing both technical and financial aspects of ongoing projects. The successful integration of French firms could accelerate technological advancements and enhance energy security in India.
