India Plans to Establish Rocket-Cum-Missile Force, Says Army Chief
India is considering the formation of a 'rocket-cum-missile' force to address regional security challenges posed by China and Pakistan, as stated by Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi. The Indian Army aims to enhance its combat capabilities by integrating rockets and missiles, currently managed by the Corps of Army Air Defence and Artillery regiments.
The initiative follows lessons from Operation Sindoor and includes the induction of advanced missile systems such as BrahMos and Pralay. The Army is reviewing its organizational structure for multi-domain operations and is committed to updating its warfighting doctrines. The new force’s command structure is yet to be determined, with initial operations planned under existing artillery regiments.
