India Rejects China's Claims Over Shaksgam Valley Amid Border Tensions

DEFENSE

India has rejected China's claims and construction activities in Shaksgam Valley, reaffirming its stance that the 1963 boundary agreement between Pakistan and China is illegal. Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated that India does not accept any activity in the valley.

Following China's claims, India's foreign ministry reiterated that Shaksgam Valley is part of Indian territory. The valley covers 5,180 square kilometers and was ceded to China by Pakistan in 1963. General Dwivedi also dismissed Chinese statements regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as illegal.

Despite ongoing tensions, he noted a stable situation along the northern borders with China and emphasized improved engagement to prevent escalation. He highlighted that terrorist incidents linked to Pakistan have decreased significantly due to Operation Sindoor, although some terror camps remain active.
