India-Russia Defense Pact: 3000 Troops, 10 Jets, 5 Warships Deployment Agreement
India and Russia have formalized a defense cooperation agreement allowing reciprocal military personnel and asset deployments, a move that poses implications for global powers such as the US and China.

The Indo-Russian Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Agreement (RELOS), effective from January 12, 2026, allows each country to deploy up to 3000 troops, 10 aircraft, and 5 warships on the other's territory, valid for five years with potential extensions. This agreement enhances logistical support, granting access to military bases, including in the Arctic, and facilitates joint military exercises and training programs.
It aims to simplify maintenance for India’s Russian-origin military equipment, emphasizing a significant shift in defense cooperation amid rising global security concerns. The arrangement may prompt strategic reassessments from the US and China given the current geopolitical landscape, as it signifies deepening ties between two nations amidst fluctuating international alliances.
