Indian Air Force Intercepts Pakistani Missile Targeting Delhi During Operation Sindoor
In May 2025, an Indian Air Force unit in Haryana intercepted a Pakistani missile, potentially aimed at Delhi, averting major damage. This operation underscores the effectiveness of India's integrated air defence capabilities, particularly the Barak-8 missile system.

An Indian Air Force unit successfully intercepted a Pakistani ballistic missile over Sirsa airspace in May 2025, preventing potential damage to Delhi. The operation, conducted by the Barak-8 missile system, was initiated amid heightened tensions following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The Barak-8, developed by Israel Aerospace Industries and India's DRDO, offers a range of 70 to 100 km, with an extended variant reaching up to 150 km. Air Commodore Rohit Kapil led the operation and received the Yudh Seva Medal for his pivotal role. This incident emphasizes the importance of India's air defence strategy, which is being enhanced under the Sudarshan programme to include systems like the S-400.
