Indian Army Chief Proposes Creation of Rocket-Missile Force Amid Regional Threats

General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, announced plans for India to establish a dedicated rocket-missile force, citing threats from Pakistan and China. He highlighted the need for integration of long-range systems, including indigenous projects like Pinaka, Pralay, and BrahMos.

Contracts for extended ranges of these systems are underway, with targets of 150-450 km. The Indian Army aims to manufacture 5,000 drones per command, enhancing operational capabilities. Dwivedi expressed satisfaction with progress towards military modernization by 2025, linked to initiatives promoting self-reliance and innovation. He confirmed that Operation Sindoor remains active, addressing ongoing threats from terrorism along the Line of Control with Pakistan.
