Indian Army Launches Technology Roadmap for Unmanned Aerial Systems
The Indian Army has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and loitering munitions. This initiative aims to enhance domestic capabilities and align technological development with operational needs, fostering a self-reliant drone ecosystem.

The Indian Army released its 'Technology Roadmap for Unmanned Aerial Systems and Loitering Munitions' in New Delhi, aimed at providing long-term visibility of operational requirements. The document facilitates industry engagement, allowing stakeholders to focus investments on identified priority areas, thereby encouraging innovation and participation from startups and MSMEs.
It categorizes UAS needs into five areas: surveillance, loitering munitions, air defense, special roles, and logistics. This initiative is aligned with the government's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision and is intended to enhance operational preparedness amid evolving global conflicts. The roadmap also underscores the importance of confidentiality regarding its specifications to prevent unauthorized access by adversaries.
