Indian Army Signs MoU with Ministry of MSME to Enhance Indigenisation and Technology Development
The Indian Army and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises signed a Memorandum of Understanding on January 23 to enhance collaboration in research and manufacturing across various advanced technologies, including drone technology and 5G. This initiative aims to improve the Army's maintenance and repair processes while reducing dependence on imports. The partnership aligns with the Ministry of Defence's goal to boost indigenous defence production and streamline operations within the Army's inventory.

On 23 January, the Indian Army and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation between Army Base Workshops, Corps Zone Workshops, and 33 Technology Centres. The MoU focuses on advancing research and manufacturing in areas such as Advanced Multi-Axis Machining, Additive Manufacturing, Drone Technology, and 5G.
The Indian Army aims to improve its maintenance, repair, and overhaul processes, reducing reliance on imports. The Ministry of Defence reported a record defence production of Rs 1.51 lakh crore for 2024-25, with a target of Rs 3 lakh crore by 2029.
Defence exports also reached Rs 23,622 crore in 2024-25. The partnership is expected to facilitate the development of indigenous systems and streamline operations within the Army's extensive inventory.
