Indian Civil Society Calls for Cessation of Attacks on Kurdish Areas in Aleppo by Interim Syrian Government
Indian civil society leaders have issued a letter urging the Interim Syrian Government to cease attacks on Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo, specifically Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah. The letter highlights the escalation of violence since January 6, which has resulted in numerous civilian casualties, including children and women.
The signatories demand the withdrawal of heavy weapons, lifting of the blockade, and protection for the Kurdish population. They recall that the quest for democracy, freedom, and equality in Syria remains unresolved since the uprising 15 years ago.
The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) is recognized for fostering a decentralized and pluralistic governance model. The statement calls on the international community to support peaceful dialogue and to encourage a democratic and inclusive Syria, particularly in light of a recent ceasefire and ongoing negotiations between DAANES and SIG.
