Indian Navy and DRDO Conduct Successful Salvo Launch of NASM-SR Anti-Ship Missiles
The Indian Navy and DRDO successfully executed the first salvo launch of the NASM-SR anti-ship missile from a helicopter off Odisha. This advancement enhances India's indigenous defense capabilities and aims to replace older foreign missile systems.

The Indian Navy and DRDO achieved a significant milestone with the maiden salvo launch of the Naval Anti-ship Missile-Short Range (NASM-SR) from a helicopter at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha. Two missiles were launched in quick succession, confirming the missile's capability to hit targets close to the waterline.
The missile, weighing approximately 380 kg with a range of 55 km, incorporates indigenous technology across various subsystems, including navigation and guidance. The recent trials validate the missile's performance metrics, which were tracked using advanced instrumentation.
The missile program, developed in collaboration with multiple DRDO laboratories and industry partners, signifies a strategic shift towards self-reliance in defense. The successful launch may reduce reliance on foreign missile systems, thereby enhancing operational autonomy.
