India's Budget 2026 Doubles Nuclear Research Funding to ₹2,410.48 Crore

India's Budget 2026 has increased its allocation for nuclear research to ₹2,410.48 crore, an 88% increase from last year's ₹1,284.77 crore. Capital expenditure for nuclear projects has risen significantly to ₹1,977.20 crore, a 113% increase, while revenue expenditure has increased modestly to ₹433.38 crore.

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) receives a boost to ₹1,800 crore, up from ₹918.91 crore, including ₹1,609.16 crore for R&D projects. The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) sees its allocation rise to ₹226 crore, with capital expenditure at ₹183.82 crore.

Overall support for the Department of Atomic Energy has declined slightly to ₹24,123.92 crore due to reduced capital expenditure for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), now at ₹5,500 crore. NPCIL reported an operating income of ₹20,384.66 crore for 2024-25.
